Travel Blog: Michael Jordan "The Spirit", Chicago USA

Published on  7/31/18   10:51 AM

Michael Jordan is the greatest basketball player of all time, as described in the official NBA website (www.nba.com)

He played under Chicago Bulls (1984 to 1993, 1995 to 1998) and Washington Wizards (2001 to 2003) as shooting guard.

He used basketball jerseys with numbers 23, 45 and 12.

He used number "12" for one night only!

On a match against Orlando Magic last February 14, 1990, Michael Jordan wore a nameless jersey with number "12" after someone stole his jersey with number "23" inside Chicago Bulls locker room, 90 minutes before the game.

He also  had a short stint in the minor league baseball.

Omri Amrany and Julie Rotblatt-Amrany were commissioned to create a bronze sculpture named "The Spirit" to honor Michael Jordan after his initial retirement in the 1990's.

The sculpture is a 12-foot (3.7 m) which stands on 5-foot (1.52 m) black granite base.

"The best there ever was.
The best there ever will be"
- inscription at the base of the granite

"The Spirit" is initially placed outside Gate 4 of United Center, 1901 W. Madison Street, Chicago, Illinois USA.

Currently, the statue is placed in the middle of the covered atrium to protect the statue against exposure to elements.

During non event days, the atrium is open to the public from 10 am to 6 pm on Monday to Sunday

On event days, it is open  from 10 am to 6 pm to one hour after events

United Center is a sports arena located in the west of Chicago Loop, Chicago Illinois build for both Chicago Bulls of the National Basketball Association (NBA) and Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL).
